Day 5: Munich – Bozen/Bolzano (overnight in Bolzano) (daily distance 280 km)
After breakfast start your drive southbound, towards “La bella Italia”! The smaller but pleasant city of Bolzano, capital of the province of South Tyrol will be the first stop. Prior to the end of WWI, this city was part of the Austrian-Hungarian empire and the population is a mixture of Italian- and German-speaking peoples. Listen to the sound of these two languages wherever your steps take you. And even though it is just a small city, it offers a wide range of historical and cultural attractions which you will see during your tour with a local English-speaking guide.
Day 6: Bozen/Bolzano – through the Dolomites – Venice (overnight in or around Venice) (daily distance 270 km)
It’s a big tour day! Your journey today from Bolzano to Venice follows an alpine route through what UNESCO has described as “… some of the most beautiful mountain landscapes anywhere, with vertical walls, sheer cliffs, and a high density of narrow, deep, and long valleys.” Marvel at the view of the romantic “Rosengarten”, the amazing blaze of color of Lake Carezza, and the magnificent mountain panorama of the Latemar. And who wouldn’t want to tell friends and family that they saw the world famous balcony of Giulietta Capuleti? Don’t be astonished that it isn’t in a stunningly huge courtyard – the scene of Romeo’s declaration of love is much more intimate and personal. Continue on to Milan where you will have dinner and overnight in your hotel.
Day 9: Milan (overnight in Milan)
Today you will visit Milan, Italy’s fashion centre, with lots of opportunity for a shopping trip after your guided city tour; the “Galleria Vittorio Emanuale II” and “Via Turino” near the Dome would be a perfect spot for this! Or perhaps you would prefer a more relaxed alternative, spending time in the huge “Parco Sempione” and the gardens of Sforza Castle? And a stroll through the Chinese quarter wouldn’t be a bad idea either!
Day 10: departure
Depending on the departure time, transfer from your hotel to the airport near Milan and fly homeward. You’ll have plenty to reflect upon during the journey, both on things that you did, and on things that you should have done. But don’t worry. You’ll be back!
